PROJECT ON THE BORDER OF DIGITAL JOURNALISM, PUBLIC HISTORY, AND POLITICS OF MEMORY
AN ERASED DOESN'T MEAN LOST
Every year the population of the "silent generation" become smaller.

We have not time to say ''wait a minute, we need some time''.

Attention is the coin of modernity
We are ready for deep scrolling, but only something special could can catch our attention.

Interactive tools in sphere of new media – are the key for attention of youngsters. My research focused on genre of multimedia web documentary archive about important life stories of elderly people.

It happens,
and it is
inevitably

Generation Z is much more close to technologies.

That kind of people percieve events of XX c. wartime
and used to remember
in extremely another way than modern adults,
even youngsters,
who were born in 90th.

Our goal is to make new stories in that kind of genre about people who were born in Eastern Europe in 20-40th years of previous century

It's not about teaching history. It's something about values. This media project could be useful example how to collect family memory and understand each generation better, with open-mindness.

In such a way we can save the atmosphere of different times of XX c. history and produce it for new generations in understandable and attractive look.
Just imagine a world where elderly people were born in the end of XX century or in early years of XXI

They were children when the Internet came to their life's. They do not know how it feels to live without mobile phones, and have the relationship without connections in social media.
Modern conditions make us rethink some habits, so analyzing beyond boundaries – it is what social science teaches, and is that what a human need in preparing for future times of rapid change.
Once Umberto Eco wrote for his grandson:

"You can train your memory through the Internet. It is suitable not only for chatting with your friends, but also for the study of world history. What were the three ships of Columbus? Who was the second Pope in history? When was created Mickey Mouse? I could go on asking questions indefinitely, and they would be perfect subjects for the study because of media technologies. The day will come and you will be old, but you will feel that you have lived a thousand lives".

Such idea has a great sense to ask the society:

1. How to deal with differences between generations?

2. How one may catch the same wave of mood instead the gap of years and relations with technologies?

so why does it work?
To be honest, we are not afraid to take a part in someone's lifelong journey, simply because we have much more same than different,
so we do care.
